Muntlig Pizza & Burger
Muntlig is a restaurant run by Sammen (the student welfare organization) located on the top floor of the Student Center. It has a cozy terrace with plenty of sun throughout the day and good shelter from the wind. Note: it's closed for summer between late June and early August.

Café Opera
Café Opera is the go-to student hangout downtown, known for cheap beer and outdoor seating that fills up the moment the sun appears. The terrace gets sun from early afternoon and is very popular – arrive before 3 pm on nice days. Popular with students from nearby UiB, with a casual, slightly shabby-chic vibe.

Landmark
Landmark is a lunch spot belonging to Bergen Kunsthall (Bergen Art Hall) that also serves coffee, natural wine, and beer. It has outdoor seating on Festplassen, right by Lille Lungegårdsvannet, with sun all day long.

Hoggorm
Hoggorm is a pizza restaurant with outdoor seating in the courtyard. You get sun here in the afternoon.

Torgallmenningen
Right downtown, you'll find outdoor seating with plenty of sun all day. The area is managed by the city council, so the specific venue responsible for the seating changes from year to year. In 2026, it's China Palace, Bjerck, Holy Cow, and Allmuen.

MM Atmosphere
MM Atmosphere is in a higher price range, but it has its own rooftop terrace on the 9th floor of Ole Bull Huset. You get sun throughout the day and a stunning view over the city – they call themselves "Bergen's eighth mountain."

Fish Me
Fish Me is a seafood restaurant right by the Fish Market. It has outdoor seating with afternoon sun and a lovely view of the water and Bryggen.

Kippers Bar & Kafé USF Verftet
Kippers belongs to USF Verftet on Nordnes. It has one of the largest outdoor seating areas in the city, with a view of Puddefjorden and sun from the afternoon through the rest of the day – possibly the best spot in Bergen to watch the sunset from. Despite its size, it can be hard to snag a table, since it's a favorite with locals whenever the weather is nice.

And ice cream is, after all, the best thing to enjoy in the sun! Hallaisen shares a courtyard on Skostredet with the restaurants Villani and Izakaya. You get the most sun here from morning until early afternoon.

Fjåk is a chocolate bar on Skostredet that uses the same courtyard as Hallaisen. Fjåk's tables sit a bit further away and therefore get more sun in the afternoon.

Godt Brød
A bakery chain with coffee and pastries. Godt Brød has several locations across Bergen, and most have outdoor seating. Try the café at Fløttmannsplassen, right across from Småpudden and BI, or Kronstad X near HVL. Both get lovely sun from morning until early afternoon.
