Bergen has over 100 bars and nightspots, with something to suit every taste and age group. Students will find their own faculty bars such as Kvarteret, Hulen and Diskuterbar (mostly 18+), whilst the city centre offers everything from classic ‘dive bars’ (Finnegans, Pingvinen) and cocktail bars (Dark & Stormy, No Stress) to wine bars, beer bars and nightclubs such as Bryggen Nightclub and Vaskeriet. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, you’ll find, amongst other things, an ice-bar (Magic Ice), a whisky bar (Bar Amundsen), a karaoke bar (Syng) and Bergen’s only LGBTQ+ nightspot (Fincken).

Bergen has many student-run bars connected to various faculties and institutions, including Ad Fontes (Faculty of Humanities, UiB), Det Akademiske Kvarter/Kvarteret, Diskuterbar (Faculty of Social Sciences, UiB), Hulen, Integrerbar (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences), Kronbar (HVL), Kurerbar (Faculty of Psychology), Rederiet (BI), Smittbar (Faculty of Medicine), Straffbar (Faculty of Law), Formbar (KMD), Bunkeren bar (Kristiania), Klubben (NHH), and Programmerbar (computer science students).
Most student bars have an 18+ age limit, such as Ad Fontes, Diskuterbar, Hulen, Integrerbar, Kurerbar, Rederiet, Straffbar, and Bunkeren bar. Some have a higher limit for part of the venue – for example, Halvtimen (the cocktail bar within Kvarteret) has a 20+ limit, while Kronbar requires guests to be 20+ without a valid student ID.
Several venues offer board games, including Integrerbar, Hectors Hybel, and Kråken.

A "brown bar", or dive bar, is a classic, down-to-earth type of bar that focuses on good beer and a simple atmosphere rather than modern concepts. Examples in Bergen include Finnegans, Pappa Bar og Salong, Brian Boru Irish Pub, O'Connor's Irish Pub, Rævedilter Bar og Kafe, and Scruffy Murphy's.
Bergen has several well-regarded cocktail bars, including Dark & Stormy (the city's only tiki bar), Last Monkey, Magda, Muskedunder, No Stress, Rebel, Ginial Bar, and Eden Bar.
The city's wine bars include Dråpen Vinbar, Frille og Dyvekes Vinkjeller (one of Bergen's oldest venues serving alcohol, operating since the 1300s), Vinbaren – Vin & Pintxos on Kaigaten, Pergola Mat & Vinbar, Falske Reker, Jest, Villani Osteria, Temmelig Hemmelig, and Den Svarte Hane.

Sports bars in Bergen include Felix, Fotballpuben (18+ age limit), Game Sportsbar, Kniksen Sportsbar (Oasen, Fyllingsdalen), Metz Sportsbar, Splitt (Lagunen), and English/Irish pubs such as Huset Pub and Flying Dutchman English Pub.
Sjøboden on Bryggen has live music every day. Other venues with regular live music include Landmark, Jack's Country Saloon (country music), Pianobar, O'Connor's Irish Pub, and Cafe Sanaa.

Magic Ice is a bar where the interior, including a sculpture gallery, is made entirely of ice. Admission includes a welcome drink, poncho, and gloves.
Age limits
Several student bars (Ad Fontes, Diskuterbar, Hulen, Integrerbar, Kurerbar, Rederiet, Straffbar, Bunkeren bar), as well as Duggfrisk, Bergen Kjøtt, Undr, and Bryggen Nightclub (on Fridays), have an 18+ age limit.
Luddi has a 23+ age limit, and Rebel has a 23+ age limit from 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. Bergen Street Food has a 22+ age limit at its nightclub on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Practical questions

Ad Fontes is a student bar for students at the Faculty of Humanities. They regularly organise events such as concerts, lectures, film nights, etc., as well as a weekly quiz for students. Located at the back of the HF building at UiB.

Det Akademiske Kvarter – Kvarteret
Det Akademiske Kvarter is a centre for student culture in Bergen. Kvarteret consists of three permanent venues. Stjernesalen is a café that's perfect for food or a drink. Grøndahls is a great place to have a chat and meet new people. They have a good selection of drinks. Halvtimen is a cocktail bar for students.
Kvarteret has an 18-year age limit in Stjernesalen and Grøndahls, while Halvtimen has a 20-year age limit.

Diskuterbar
Diskuterbar is the bar for students at the Faculty of Social Sciences. The bar offers good prices, a good selection of drinks and friendly people. During the day, Diskuterbar is also a café, where you can enjoy a cheap cup of coffee. Every Wednesday there’s a quiz. Diskuterbar is located in Ulrikke Phils Hus.

Hulen
Hulen is a student-run concert venue. They organise everything from small indie concerts to hand-craft markets. Hulen is Northern Europe's oldest rock club and has been run by volunteers since 1969. Apart from concerts, you can also take part in many different cultural events.

Integrerbar
Integrerbar is the bar for students studying at the Faculty of Science and Technology. It's a great place to stop by for a beer or a board game after a long day in the reading room. Integrerbar is located on the premises of the Faculty of Science and Technology, close to the Student Centre.

Kronbar
Kronbar is the bar for students at Høgskulen på Vestlandet and regularly organises events such as quizzes and concerts. Kronbar is entirely run by volunteers from HVL and is located in an old beautiful industrial building.

Kurerbar is the student bar at the Faculty of Psychology. Here you can both read and socialise with other students from the entire faculty. Opening hours are from 17:00-00:00 Thursdays and Fridays.

Rederiet
Rederiet is the bar for BI students. The interior has an exclusive feel, while the bar has a cosy and intimate touch. The bar is for students, but it feels like something more than just a student bar. Rederiet is located on BI's campus.

Smittbar is the bar for students at the Faculty of Medicine at UiB.

Straffbar
Straffbar is the law students own bar at Dragefjellet. Straffbar is run by the jolliest student group at the Faculty of Law, Club Jur, who are always ready to offer refreshments to thirsty students. It is located in the bomb shelter at the Faculty of Law.

Landmark is the café and pub attached to Bergen Kunsthall. Here you'll find a concert venue, nightclub and bar. Good sofas, good food and an atmosphere reminiscent of the big cities of Europe. Food is served between 11am and 5pm. They have a good selection of beers and other drinks. In the evening you can attend a concert or a performance, often played by international artists. If you're an art student, this is definitely a place to hang out.

Salong Bar og Billiard

Bergen Street Food
A venue offering food, drink and music! Following its success in Oslo, Bergen now has its own Street Food venue. The concept is indoor street food stalls. Here you’ll find 13 food stalls, 6 bars and a concert stage. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the venue is transformed into a nightclub with a DJ. A perfect place to hang out with friends and enjoy a tasty bite to eat.
