Bergen's student welfare organisation
Bergen’s student welfare organisation is called Sammen (which means "together"). It works to promote the well-being of students across several educational institutions. Students at member institutions pay a semester fee that gives them access to Sammen’s services. Sammen provides student housing and cafeterias, as well as physical and mental healthcare, career counselling, training centres, and more.
Housing
Sammen Housing offers more than 5,000 student units both in and around the city centre. Rent is typically lower than the private market rate, and international students are prioritized for accommodation.
Cafe
Sammen Cafe operates 22 student cafés across Bergen, including sites at all faculties of the University of Bergen, Kristiania, NHH and Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. They offer salad bars, a wide variety of sandwiches, hot meals, and coffee, tea, and cold drinks at student-friendly prices.
Health
Sammen Health provides free psychological services, access to a health centre and dental care for students.
Training
Sammen Training has seven student gyms located either in the city centre or on campus. Prices are adjusted each semester. As of March 2026, membership costs NOK 359 per month, or NOK 259 per month with a 12‑month contract.
Career center
Sammen Career center is a free service for all students in Bergen. Advisors can help you review your CV or job applications and offer career guidance. They are familiar with the Norwegian job market and can provide information about local employers, especially useful for international students. They also offer short courses (held in Norwegian).
Students are welcome to book a 60‑minute appointment with a career counsellor (in English or Norwegian).
You can book an appointment with Sammen Career & Counselling service here (please note that the form is currently only available in Norwegian).
