University of Bergen

UiB is an internationally recognised university established in 1946

The University of Bergen is the second oldest university in Norway and an international research university with major interdisciplinary width. The university is located in the middle of Bergen, and has been involved in shaping the history of the city. UiB is the most cited university in Norway.

There are a total of 16 900 students at the university. Around 1 880 of these are international students with around 3 600 employed staff. PhD candidates are paid employees of staff, making the doctoral degree at UiB particularly attractive for rising talent. About one in three graduating doctors are from outside Norway.

UiB also has a University Library with departments at all faculties, who collect and make available information for research, education, teaching and dissemination. There is also a University Museum with some of the largest collections within cultural and natural history in Norway.
